A CI flexo printing machine, also known as a Central Impression Flexographic Printing Machine, is a type of printing press used for high-quality and high-speed printing on flexible materials such as films, labels, and packaging materials. CI flexo printing is a popular choice for applications like flexible packaging, corrugated board printing, and label printing.
The CI flexo printing machine consists of several key components:
-
Central Impression Drum: It is the central cylinder around which the printing process takes place. The flexible material to be printed is wrapped around this drum.
-
Anilox Rollers: These are engraved metal rollers that transfer ink to the printing plate. Anilox rollers have small cells or cells of varying sizes that hold a precise amount of ink, which is transferred to the printing plate during the printing process.
-
Printing Plates: These plates are made of flexible material (typically rubber or photopolymer) and carry the image or design to be printed. Each color in the design requires a separate plate.
-
Ink System: The ink system consists of ink tanks, pumps, and color-mixing units. It supplies ink to the anilox rollers, which then transfer the ink to the printing plates.
-
Drying System: After the ink is applied to the substrate, it needs to be dried quickly. CI flexo machines often incorporate drying systems, such as hot air dryers or UV curing units, to facilitate rapid ink drying.
-
Tension Control System: Flexible materials need to be kept under controlled tension throughout the printing process to ensure accurate registration and prevent distortion. Tension control systems maintain consistent tension levels in the material.
-
Unwinder and Rewinder: The CI flexo machine typically has an unwinder at the beginning and a rewinder at the end of the printing process. The unwinder feeds the material into the machine, while the rewinder collects the printed material onto a roll.
CI flexo printing machines offer several advantages, including high printing quality, excellent color registration, the ability to print on a wide range of substrates, and high production speeds. They are widely used in the packaging industry for producing labels, flexible packaging, folding cartons, and other printed materials.
